On this go around I don't do too much else. A rare fishing trip and occasional trip to the rifle range with my step-son and grandson (teaching him to shoot safely and responsibly) and just having some fun shooting. My step-son's a police officer and just won this region's marksmanship championships. I used to think I could shoot til' I started shooting with him! Nothing serious that takes my focus off my lifting.

In the 80's I did too many sports at the same time and all too seriously to stay focused well on any one. At one time I was competing in Powerlifting, Bodybuilding, Full Contact Karate(predecesor to MMA), and a few boxing matches all in the same 2 year run. I was good at all of it but not focused enough to be my best at any of it.

When I made my comeback in 2000 I was trying to comeback in both powerlifting and bodybuilding. Again; good success at both but I realized soon that if I let the bodybuilding comps go and focused on just powerlifting, I could take it to a whole new level. For me I was right. My strength started going up and up and I'm stronger at 52 than at 20-30-40 etc. I think it's important to have something recreational you can just pick up and put down occasionally; but for me at least I have to totally focus on one serious sport (powerlifting) to be my best at it.
