Along the lines of Billy's remarks, self-ownership in one's body means the right to engage in non-violent behavior that may very well damage one's health. I find cigarette smoking damn unpleasant, but I don't want the state committing violence against smokers the way it does against marijuana users. Simply put, either we own our bodies or we don't.

To apply this to our sport, lifters should have the right to use whatever drugs they want. That doesn't mean they have a right to compete wherever they want, just as a lifter doesn't have a right to wear a beanie in a USAPL meet. Lifters also have the right to form feds where use (or beanies) won't be an issue. Indeed, this is how the sport has evolved, and powerlifting might be the best example of a free marketplace in athletic endeavor.
