If you just beat the hell out of them they are still around to burglarize, rob, commit other crimes, and drain your tax dollars out of thousands of dollars per year to support them in prison and supposed rehab problems. It hits very close for me. Had it happen in my own family. Rehab doesn't work even when you put them in a locked door program for a few years. That doesn't work and neither does prison. They come out, put on an act for awhile, and continue to commit drug related crimes.
