...if anyone could track down its origin.

'Odd lift' contests by several names were held waay back, in many countries on several continents.

I know we Americans like to say powerlifting is an American sport, but I think it may be more a case of our culling the activity down, naming it, and codifying the rules.

I wonder where Gene Mozee got the word?
