I read an article about him in a German newspaper in 78 or 79 (me age 16/17 then but I never forgot it) that stated he was in training for the 1980 Olympics. These were later on boycotted by USA and other countries. The article was very enthusiastic, Al was in seriou shape, approaching ca. 48-50 years of age at that time. Gold medal option was not ruled out (!). After all it was Al Oerter, champ for 4 Olympic Games (56-68) in a row. ´Still delivering mighty throws end of 1970s.
