I agree that the more divisions we add,the less competetion that is generated.From probably the 80's to recently,the vast majority of lifters have used squat suits,bench shirts etc...It has been said and proven on this forum and others that the equiped lifter lifting "raw" definitely sees a significant decrease in his/her "raw" lifting numbers when he/she goes back to lifting"raw" after lifting equipped.This could account for the lesser poundages being lifted today "raw" as compared to 30 years ago when the majority of lifters lifted with maybe just wraps.I acknowledge that records should only be compared to records set within a particular federation.I cannot see how we can compare any record lifts made in any federation today as compared to records made 5,10,20,30 years or more as the sport equipment evolution continues.Since we are not likely to go back to one federation,one set standard of equipment allowed,I cannot see how having "raw" records kept within each federation that has a "raw" division comparing lifters from State to State within a particular organization(national records if you will) is the most divisive issue within our sport.
