Because they are not intelligent. There has been quite a bit of research done concerning employees wearing back support and they all say that the ultimate result is that they result in more injuries. The reason is that using a belt, allows the back muscles to not do as much work. Since the back muscles are not getting worked, they then atrophy. Eventually the employee ends up with weaker back muscles than they would normally have and they eventually get injured either at home or at work while doing some work.

The point to be taken is this, the belt is not there for safety. It is there to allow you to lift more weight. If you rely on it too much, then your back will get weak and you will get hurt.
